Founded in 1978, the Council of Italian American Societies (CIAS) of Greater Bridgeport officially became the sponsor of the Greater Bridgeport Columbus Day Parade in 1979. Today, the Council proudly serves as a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating Italian heritage, culture, customs, and traditions throughout the Greater Bridgeport region.
Through the annual Italian Heritage Celebration, the Greater Bridgeport Columbus Day Parade, and a variety of cultural and community initiatives, CIAS brings together generations of Italian Americans while honoring the contributions of Italian heritage to our local community and beyond.
The Council is committed to supporting education and future generations through scholarship opportunities for graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education.
CIAS actively collaborates with and supports fellow cultural and civic organizations across the region. As part of its broader commitment to community engagement and unity, the Council proudly participates in and supports numerous local events and celebrations, including the Barnum Festival, the Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the Black Rock Day Parade, and the Puerto Rican Day Parade.
